Milan and Liverpool will meet at San Siro on September 17, 2024, with the footballing powerhouse of a tie all set for an explosive clash. The two clubs are going through a period of transition under new management and will try to leave their mark on the Champions League. The encounter opens several betting markets, which football lovers and punters will find exciting to wager on.
Milan and Liverpool have met in several classic Champions League fixtures, the Istanbul 2005 final being one of the most famous. Head-to-head record of the teams:
Which indicates a close-played game where both teams are able to score, and as an outcome, both teams to score and over 2.5 goals might be quite good for betting value.
On the GSB platform, the odds indicate a slight edge for Liverpool, with a win for the English club priced at 1.93 compared to Milan’s at 3.50 — but it should be a thriller nonetheless! Milan still has the benefit of playing at San Siro, though.
Here are some interesting betting markets:
With both teams known for their attacking style of play, the over 2.5 goals market looks promising, and the potential for goals from both sides is high.
At the start of the 2024/25 Serie A season, Milan is struggling to hold a place under new manager Paulo Fonseca. Having splashed out over €70 million on new signings, the pressure was on for good returns, but unfortunately they have been very hit and miss. While Milan started their season with two draws and a loss, they got back to winning ways in Serie A on 29 August by beating Venezia 4-0 ahead of the Champions League.
Their home advantage at the San Siro will probably dictate whether or not Milan can make an early statement. Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have to be at their best in midfield, with Okafor leading the line.
Arne Slott’s new-look Liverpool have been far more settled and won their opening three Premier League games. Their most recent outing was a 0-1 loss to Nottingham Forest, though, a defeat that showed them as humans after all.
Liverpool are still a decent team, with Virgil van Dijk, incoming Dominik Szoboszlai, and Alexis Mac Allister providing some more stability in the back and midfield. Their attacking trio of Salah, Diaz, and Diogo Jota will be vital in picking the lock to Milan’s defense.
Milan (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Emerson, Tomori, Pavlovic, Hernandez; Reijnders, Fofana, Loftus-Cheek; Pulisic, Abraham, Leao
Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Endo, Gravenberch; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Nunez
However, in defense and midfield Milan will be stretched thin as Sportiello, Florenzi, Thiaw and Bennacer miss out. Liverpool, on the other hand, are only missing Elliot, which leaves them with a near full-strength squad.
