Home » East Africa to Co-Host CHAN 2024: Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania Lead the Way
During the period of February 1–February 28, 2025, Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania will jointly organize the CHAN 2024 tournament, which is a prove of their ability to handle major sporting events. This milestone for East Africa lays the groundwork for the next Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in 2027.
This announcement came just after the new Uganda Cranes kit was launched before the AFCON qualifiers. Rogers Byamukama, FUFA Executive Committee member, made a statement that Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania have officially been confirmed by CAF and therefore granted the rights to co-host ChAN 2024. This co-hosting opportunity is well positioned as it is a part of their drive to achieve hosting AFCON 2027.
There are strategic gains to Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania hosting CHAN 2024; hence, the moves come as a bit foretelling. This event is an anticipatory trial that shows how far these nations can go in terms of logistics, security, and hospitality management in preparation for the bigger AFCON 2027.
A thorough examination of the countries to be awarded the CHAN 2024 hosting rights was carried out by a few teams to ascertain the extent to which Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania were prepared and their respective infrastructures. The gathering of such evidence ruled out any chances for these nations in failing to meet the requirements needed to host the CHAN 2024.
Apart from being the primary competition for domestic football players, CHAN has been in existence since 2009. The difference between this tournament and AFCON is that this tournament emphasizes local players who are plying their trade in their respective countries. Despite Uganda being in the tournament all the time, it has never managed to go past the group stage.
Countries such as Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania are about to take full advantage of what CHAN 2024 has to offer. While making arrangements for this competition, their focus is on the bigger picture—hosting AFCON 2027. These East African countries will not only showcase their passion for football but will also showcase their capability to host a big international sporting event that will be viewed all over the world.
