The shortlist also features the talents of Marcel Koller of Al Ahly, Florent Ibenge from Al Hilal, and Kwesi Appiah of Sudan. This esteemed lineup underscores the level of talent within African football management.
Desabre’s nomination includes a year in which coach guided the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) to historically unprecedented success, culminating in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semifinal, which Ivory Coast eventually won. This amazing run proved Desabre’s tactical brilliance and his ability to inspire his squad to triumph on the biggest stage on the continent.
Beyond AFCON, Desabre has further solidified his standing by qualifying DR Congo for the 2025 continental tournament with two matches remaining in the qualification rounds. This early qualification reflects Desabre’s commitment to excellence and the strength he has instilled within the team.
