United States

Even though they didn’t make it to the 2018 World Cup, the United States are back in the spotlight on the international stage.

Since that setback in 2018, they have triumphed in a handful of CONCACAF regional competitions, including the Gold Cup and the Nations League. Nonetheless, qualifying for the World Cup in 2022 has always been their primary objective.

Coached by Gregg Berhalter, who was their head coach, they finished third in the eight-team round robin, behind Canada and Mexico but ahead of Costa Rica on goal difference. The American coach, who is getting close to his first full year in command, has focused on possession and pushing to get the most out of this exceptionally gifted group.

The draw for the group stage was favorable, and many observers believe that this team possesses one of the most talented player pools in the club’s history. All of this indicates that there will be a great deal of anticipation in Qatar come November.

TACTICS

Under the tutelage of coach Gregg Berhalter, a number of different 4-3-3 formations have seen significant use. They want to maintain control of the ball and apply pressure to varying degrees, depending on the caliber of the opponent. To carry out this strategy successfully, it will be important to find the right people for each job.

READY TO SHINE

Christian Pulisic

Even though several other players have improved, the active attacker from Pennsylvania is still listed first on the US teamsheet.
