Uganda Cup Final 2025: Vipers SC vs KCCA FC Set for Historic Showdown at Kadiba Stadium

Uganda Cup Final 2025: Vipers SC vs KCCA FC at Kadiba Stadium

Soccer’s highly anticipated match is on as Vipers Sports Club competes against KCCA (Kampala Capital City Authority FC). The Uganda Cup (one of the most successful teams) bites a final of rivalry, history, and revenge on May 31, 2025, at the newly constructed Kadiba Stadium in Mengo, as soccer breathes new life into a legacy to remain in town.

The match is seemingly just another final for a lot going on. Instead, it’s a final of relative competition in supremacy, victors, trophies, accolades, and ultimate boast to the world of soccer in Uganda.

Road to the Uganda Cup Final

Vipers SC: Unbothered Semifinal Path to Mengo

Vipers SC secured their slot in the Uganda Cup final by defeating Kitara FC in the semifinal pairing with a 2-0 aggregate score. Their first leg took place at St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende, where the anticipated top-scorer Yunus Sentamu got the Venoms ahead late, scoring in the 81st minute and holding on to a comfortable first-leg advantage.

The second leg came at Royals Park, Butema, where Abubakali Walusimbi cut back for Abdul Karim Watambala to finish just after the second half whistle; Vipers would proceed to yet another Uganda Cup final without even losing a match.

They possess great discipline, clinical finishing, and a strong defensive unit, which led them to the final. Vipers are hard to come by, as they’ve only conceded two goals throughout their Uganda Cup journey.

KCCA FC: A Season of Resurgence and Determination

KCCA FC admittedly did not have the easiest road to the Uganda Cup finals this year, yet their offensive prowess and experience came through when it mattered most. KCCA faced Kataka FC, a hungry second-division side from FUFA Big League, in the semifinals.

KCCA turned on the jets in the first leg played at Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo in the semifinals and walked away 3-0 victors from the first encounter, with Joao Gabriel, Ashraf Mugume, and Usama Arafat scoring. The return leg away in Mbale was tougher; however, with a typically strong home advantage and a slippery pitch, KCCA managed to draw 1-1. In the 48th minute, KCCA’s Joao Gabriel struck as KCCA had the lead, but in the 66th minute, the equalizer came when Michael Olinga volleyed home a master’s flick of Ali Sentamu.

KCCA made it to the Uganda Cup final despite the draw based on all aggregate scores.

Uganda Cup Rivalry Renewed: Vipers vs KCCA

The last time these two teams met was during one of the greatest rivalries in the Uganda Cup finals. KCCA defeated Vipers 1-0 in the Uganda Cup final in Bukedea in 2018. The outcome is a victory for KCCA as one of the champions of cups, but currently both teams are not the same as they were years ago.

Head-to-Head in Uganda Cup Finals

  • 2018 Final: KCCA 1–0 Vipers
  • 2025 Final: TBD

The 2025 matchup is uncertain as Vipers defeated them in league; however, KCCA has the greatest advantage on their side for the Uganda Cup finals.

Why is this final being played at Kadiba Stadium?

Kadiba Stadium in Mengo is the brand-new home of football in Uganda, as it is expected to be the center of the country’s football operations going forward. With 6,000 seats and a hybrid pitch that combines modern-day technology with an old-school feel, it’s a wonderful place to host the final.

It symbolizes the new era of the cup and FUFA’s expansion into construction. Moreover, it would be a great honor for either team to be the first champion of a brand-new stadium, forever inscribed in history as the first winner there.
