Ballon d'Or Dream Team: The Complete Lineup and Players

The world’s best football player receives the highly coveted Ballon d’Or award every year from France Football magazine. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, which interrupted and postponed several championships, France Football compiled the Top 11 Ballon d’Or all-time list in 2020.

Not all of the eleven players won the prize, but they were nonetheless on the voters list (except Maradona and Pele, who, when they were footballers, could not be voted for, as they were South Americans). Let’s see in detail the dream formation of the Ballon d’Or dream team.

1. Goalkeeper: Lev Yashin

Yashin is the only goalkeeper who has won the Ballon d’Or award. He played for Dynamo Moscow and the Soviet national team, earning the nickname “the black spider” for his outstanding goalkeeping abilities.

2. Right back: Cafu

Cafu, a Brazilian fullback, captained the World Cup in 2002 and had previously won the World Cup in 1994. He also played for Rome and Milan, where he won numerous titles.

3. Central defender: Franz Beckenbauer

Beckenbauer, a former German national team player and coach, is remembered as one of the best free-throw shooters of all time. He won the 1974 World Cup with the German national team and three consecutive European Cups between 1974 and 1976 with Bayern.

4. Central Defense: Lothar Matthaeus

Matthaeus started his career as a full-field midfielder but was later converted to a central defender. He won the record Scudetto with Trapattoni’s Inter in the 1988–89 season and the 1990 World Cup with the German national team.

5. Left back: Paolo Maldini

Paolo Maldini, an Italian player, was the leader of Milan and the Italian national team. He played as a wing defender and center back and won numerous titles, including five European Cups with Milan.

6. Defensive midfielder: Xavi

Xavi was the initiator of the famous “tiki-taka” maneuver that Barcelona was known for. He helped Barcelona succeed and win the World Cup with the Spanish national team in 2010 and two consecutive European championships in 2008 and 2012.

7. Offensive midfielder: Pele

Pele was a Brazilian player and is widely considered one of the best footballers in history. He won three world titles with the Brazilian national team and played for Santos, where he became an absolute leader.

8. Offensive midfielder: Diego Armando Maradona

Maradona was an Argentine player who led his national team to victory in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. He also won two league titles and the UEFA Cup with Napoli.

9. Right wing: Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi is the only player to have won the Ballon d’Or award seven times. He was the leader of Barcelona, winning numerous titles with the club, and led Argentina to victory in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

10. Center forward: Ronaldo

Called “Ronaldo the Phenomenon” to differentiate him from Cristiano Ronaldo, the Brazilian was the best player in the world in the late 1990s.

Conditioned then by injuries that affected his career, Ronaldo still won the World Cup in 2002 thanks to his brace in the final against Germany and was the absolute protagonist in the jerseys of Barcelona, Inter, and Real Madrid.

11. Left wing: Cristiano Ronaldo

Winner of 5 Golden Balls and always fighting with Messi for the title of best in the world.

CR7 has always been the protagonist in the shirts of Manchester United and Real Madrid, and in the three seasons, he played with Juve. He dragged his national team to a European triumph in 2006, and after the World Cup, he played as a protagonist in Qatar before leaving Europe to go and play in Saudi Arabia, where he continues to score goals.

History A Brief Story of AFCON

Curious European Cups curiosities explained

The European continent plays host to a number of the world’s most important football competitions. The UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, and the UEFA Super Cup are the football tournaments that people in Europe watch and go to the most. Millions of viewers from all over the world tune in each year to watch these competitions, and nothing else can match the level of excitement and thrill they provide.

But who exactly is the most popular phenomenon in these competitions? What is it about them that makes them stand out? In this article, we will investigate the odd European Cup occurrences and explain why they have become a cultural phenomenon.

1.Pedro is a serial winner

Most of the matches are played at night, and sometimes the continental competitions even take the field in the afternoon, but over the years there have still been many other players who have particularly distinguished themselves when it came to playing the European cups.

An example above all? Pedro. When the matches get important, the Lazio footballer never fails to sign his name.

It would then be impossible not to think about Real Madrid and the one who decided the last Champions League, or Vinicius Junior. The Brazilian from Los Blancos has established himself more and more in Ancelotti’s rotations, and in the 2022–23 season, he confirmed himself as a man of the cup, consistently scoring both in the group stage and in the knockout stages.

In particular, Vinicius has made Liverpool a target: in the last three years, the Reds have let him score five goals in four games, including the goal that also decided the final in Paris…

Next to Vini, there is also Rodrygo, another who gets excited if he sees the Champions League. In fact, there are more goals for him in Europe than in La Liga with Real, including the two that last season allowed Los Blancos to reach the final, beating Manchester City in extra time.

4.The specialist technicians at international cups

And among the coaches? Who has a particular relationship with the cups? Certainly Carlo Ancelotti, who is the only one to have won the big-eared cup four times and who always gives his best at gala evenings.

Then there would be Josè Mourinho, the only one who can say he has won all three current UEFA competitions, having done so with four clubs and never losing a final. The only thing missing from the Portuguese is the Cup Winners’ Cup, which however was no longer played when he became coach.

On the other hand, he won it as a second to Robson at Barcelona!

Sir Alex Ferguson should also be included in the list, who in addition to the cups won with Manchester United also boasts a Cup Winners’ Cup won with Aberdeen by beating Real Madrid in the final, which is not exactly something everyone can think of achieving.

And it’s impossible to close this list without mentioning Unai Emery.

His palmares, which include four Europa Leagues (three with Sevilla and one with Villarreal) and a Champions League semi-final with Villareal, demonstrate the Basque coach’s expertise in European competitions. Just to prove that when it’s evening and you play around the Old Continent, few can compete with him…

Currently 3^rd placed AC Milan want to qualify for Champions league next season and we all witnessed this as they thumped Napoli over the weekend. I do not see Empoli surviving at San Siro

2.Lecce Vs Napoli (2) Friday

Napoli lead the log with over 20 points but lost 4:0 to AC Milan last weekend. I do not see them claiming anything less than 3 points this week as they try to build their Champions league Quarter final confidence.

3.Manchester United Vs Everton (Yes) Saturday

Man United lost to Newcastle over the weekend and as they continue their quest for Champions league next season but here comes 18^th placed Everton fighting hard to come out of relegation. I do see both sides scoring today

4.Southampton Vs Man City (2) Saturday

Currently trailing Arsenal by 8 points, I do not see Man City losing any point against a 20^th placed side that has not won a game in their last 4 fixtures.

5.Dortmund Vs Union Berlin (O2.5) Saturday

After losing to Bayern over the weekend, I do see Dortmund fighting hard to win game so as to cling the 2 point gap they have with log leaders Bayern. Union Berlin are also 3^rd placed with just 4 points behind Bayern this being enough reason to push them to push for a win tonight. I do see goals flocking tonight. O2.5 is the safest bet here

6.Freiburg Vs Bayern Munich (2) Saturday

Currently leading the league with only 2 points aftervthumping 4 past 2^nd placed Dortmund last week, Bayern Munich will aim at increasing this gap with a win tonight knowing that 2^nd & 3^rd placed sides are playing each other this weekend. Bayern ajja kutegula kumpaka

Lazio are 2^nd placed to Napoli but here comes 7^th placed Juventus who are seeing for a top 4 finish. Juventus have won all their last 4 games in all competitions and I do see them scoring at least a goal in this fixture. Lazio being home, they have more chances of scoring given they have scored in each of their last 4 home games in all competitions

8.Real Madrid Vs Villarreal (1) Saturday

Real Madrid are currently 2^nd placed with 12 points behind Barcelona as the league proceeds, I see them fighting to win all their remaining games if at all they are to have any chance of defending the league trophy

9.Liverpool Vs Arsenal (O2.5) Sunday

Liverpool have really had one of their worst seasons in the past 5 years with around 10 games to the end of the season. Arsenal are chasing silverware of the league after 17 years without winning it. Liverpool is trying hard to qualify for Champions league too however hard it may look. Basing on the above, I do see both sides scoring at least a goal in this fixture with a minimum of 3 goals in the entire game.

10.Rayo Vallecano Vs Atletico Madrid (U2.5) Sunday

All you first think of when they meet is an Under 2.5 goals cause both sides are so reserved in their game approach. 6/6 last H2H meetings between the 2 sides have seen not more than 2 goals

The more the weeks go by, the more the desire for Europe grows. First of all, obviously, in the Champions League, but also in the other two competitions.

The Europa League and Conference League, on the other hand, have already finished their first rounds of knockout games and are waiting for the round of 16. We therefore now finally know the names of the 8 teams that will play in the quarterfinals of the Champions League and who will thus be able to aspire to the final of the cup, scheduled for Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey.

Here then is when and with what formula the draws for the quarterfinals (and semifinals) of this edition of the Champions League will be held.

Date and time of the Champions League quarterfinal draw

Everything took place as usual at the polls in Nyon, Switzerland, on Friday, March 17, 2023. Starting at 12 (local time), there was the draw for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, which already formed the draw for the future semi-finals, and then it was the turn of those of Europe and the Conference League in order of importance.

Atletico Madrid Vs Valencia (1) Saturday

Currently 3^rd placed, Atletico Madrid have not lost a single game from their last 8 league games and here comes Valencia who have lost 4/5 last H2H with the hosts and currently sit 17^th on the log. I do see the home siding winning being at Wanda Metro Politano as they continue to secure their top 4 finish this season
