F1: Who are the favorites for the 2023 championship?

Following so many years of domination by Mercedes, which led Lewis Hamilton to break every record and even lose a World Championship thanks to his teammate, Nico Rosberg, the situation in Formula 1 has radically changed in recent years.

If, at the end of the long battle between the Englishman and Max Verstappen, the Dutchman managed to get a World Championship in the last race, obtaining an incredible victory, the 2022 Formula 1 championship was much easier for the Dutch driver, who managed to bring home victory with much less effort, despite a great start for Ferrari. So what should we expect from the 2023 F1 World Championship?

Formula 1 2023, the favorites to win the Drivers’ World Championship

Here are the favorites, to win the 2023 Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship:

  • Max Verstappen
  • Lewis Hamilton
  • Charles Leclerc
  • George Russell
  • Carlos Sainz
  • Sergio Pérez
  • Fernando Alonso

F1 2023 favorites: Verstappen, Hamilton, and Leclerc stand out

The 2023 Formula 1 World Championship could be a three-way race between Verstappen, Hamilton, and Leclerc.  The second drivers of the teams, especially Russell, could sneak in and make an already exciting season even more exciting. The new single-seaters that have been presented have raised expectations for the tournament even more, in part because the talent of those who will sit on them is well known to all.

Max Verstappen comes from two world titles won in a row, the last of which he dominated far and wide. Everyone’s hope is that this year there will be much more challenge. His main antagonists will once again be Hamilton and Leclerc, with the Englishman ready to regain his place as a protagonist after a disastrous year. Mercedes didn’t help him much in 2022, and in fact the season ended with zero wins (it was the first time in his career).

On the other hand, the Ferrari Monegasque, after having chased the Dutch driver for a long time, goes in search of the season of consecration. The last World Championship won by Ferrari dates back too long ago, and the dream of all the fans, especially after the arrival of Vasseur as team principal, is to be able to get on the top step of the podium for as many Grands Prix as possible. With a performing SF-23, it might not be utopia.

The second drivers of Red Bull, Ferrari, and Mercedes close the list of Formula 1 favorites for the 2023 season, with George Russell ahead. The two teams that took the top two positions in the drivers’ and constructors’ standings last year have clarified their hierarchies at home, while that of Toto Wolff has not. The Briton, therefore, could even overtake Hamilton in the standings. Finally, keep an eye out for Fernando Alonso too; the pre-season tests have given us back an incredible Aston Martin.

F1 Constructors’ World Championship 2023: the favorite teams

Here are the favorite teams to win the 2023 Formula 1 Constructors’ World Championship:

  • Red Bull
  • Mercedes
  • Ferrari
  • Aston Martin

Like in the Drivers’ Championship, Red Bull, Mercedes, and Ferrari are still the teams to beat. The Milton Keynes stable, after a year as an absolute protagonist, will want to confirm itself. Last year, the reliability of the RB18 made the difference, and with the new single-seater, the goal will be to repeat the good things that have already been done.

The situation is different for Mercedes, which will try to erase the memory of a disastrous 2022 with the W14. The revolution starts with the color, which recalls the very fast W12 and W11 that dominated in the past years. But what makes Hamilton and Russell’s single-seaters stand out is that many places where carbon fiber is used have been left uncovered. Ferrari also does this to make their cars lighter and gain valuable seconds.

Instead, Ferrari’s goals are essentially to win as much as possible. Vasseur, during the presentation of the SF-23, was very clear. With Leclerc and Sainz, we understood already last year that this dream is still possible. Of course, unlike last season, it needs to work harder because Toto Wolff’s Mercedes seems to be back for all intents and purposes.

As for the drivers’ standings, watch out for Aston Martin, which could be the surprise of this World Championship. The team worked hard to reduce the gap with their rivals, and based on what we could see in the three days of preseason testing, they succeeded. Alonso and Stroll could threaten Hamilton and Russell in the very first races of the year.
